Tottenham have found yet another ‘X factor’ star, it’s not Mohammed Kudus

Thomas Frank has several players who stand out from the crowd at Tottenham.

Frank bagged his fourth win of the season already on Tuesday as Tottenham won 1-0 against Villarreal in the Champions League

While a Luiz Junior own goal separated the two sides, the Dane received praise for his defensive display during the confrontation.

Mohammed Kudus has been a key player for Frank since arriving at Tottenham from West Ham over the summer. The right winger’s best performance came when Spurs demolished Manchester City at the Etihad in the Premier League.

It has now been suggested that he, along with another Tottenham player, will be of most importance for the North London club moving forward.

Xavi Simons expected to give Tottenham an ‘X factor’

There have been mixed reactions to Xavi Simons since he arrived at Tottenham from RB Leipzig a couple of days before deadline day.

While the Dutchman bagged an assist on his debut against West Ham in the Premier League, Simons’ performance for Tottenham against Villarreal was at the heart of controversy.

However, Ian Darke – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes he and Kudus will give Spurs more of an “X factor” this season.

“I think he’s a very good signing,” Darke said.

“I think he’s an excellent player, a good signing, and a versatile player as well. But he’ll play on the left if necessary, but they’ve got other options out on the left.

“They’ve got a few options, but I think Simons will find his way in the team most weeks. You would think so. And he and Kudus give them a little bit more of an X factor.”

Xavi Simons is a problem on the left wing

Simons has started on the left wing for Tottenham since he made his debut for the North London club.

While he assisted on his debut, his all-round game has been lacklustre. Part of this can be attributed to his partnership with Djed Spence. The fullback is less likely to hold width when Simons cuts inside.

However, the Dutchman’s best position is as a 10 who is able to drift to the left wing throughout the game.

Frank has failed to profile Simons correctly, and it could result in the former Leipzig star struggling to reach his best form this season. As a result, the Simons experiment needs to come to an end.
