Tottenham have clear indication from Morgan Gibbs-White as January transfer swoop lined up

Tottenham were involved in one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer with their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White.

The Lilywhites showed a sustained interest in the Nottingham Forest star, only to be continually knocked back by their Premier League rivals as they tried to get a deal done.

Tottenham triggered Gibbs-White’s release clause, but the East Midlands outfit repeatedly stood in their way and prevented them from completing the deal, before eventually tying their star down to a new contract.

Thomas Frank’s side pursued the midfielder for several weeks, and it now looks as though their chase for his signature could be far from over.

Tottenham warned against Morgan Gibbs-White move amid ongoing interest

Tottenham are continuing to show an interest in Gibbs-White even though the transfer window has now closed.

The England international is understood to be likely to reassess his situation in January, which could potentially open the door for the North Londoners to move back in and complete a deal.

However, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that the Lilywhites need to move on to other targets, and adds that the move would have gone through in the summer if Gibbs-White truly wanted it to.

“If I were Tottenham, I’d draw a line under their pursuit after confusion like that over a simple move for a player,” King said.

“I’m not 100% certain that Gibbs-White is even the right player for Spurs.

“If he had wanted to join Tottenham, it would have happened. I think there’s more there than perhaps meets the eye.

“He’s not going to win you the league title. So Tottenham have got to start looking for players who are.”

Spurs don’t need Morgan Gibbs-White anymore

Tottenham went all out to sign Gibbs-White earlier in the summer, but with the season now beginning to get into full swing, it could certainly be argued that they no longer need the 25-year-old.

Xavi Simons’ arrival in the latter stages of the transfer window has provided the addition that Frank needed in the attacking midfield role, and he is unlikely to be displaced within months of joining, unless he really struggles to find his feet.

With that in mind, there would likely be no place in the team for Gibbs-White, and he would surely cost far too much for Spurs to be able to use him as an impact player from the bench.
