Tottenham ‘get better deal’ as Mbeumo to undergo medical – Exclusive

Tottenham are set to have the last laugh now that Bryan Mbeumo’s Brentford exit is being finalised.

Mbeumo has been linked with a Brentford exit all summer.

The Cameroonian developed into one of the Premier League’s best right-wingers under Thomas Frank. As a result, the prospect of him following the Dane to Tottenham made sense.

However, Manchester United were always favourites for Mbeumo’s signature, although it seems Tottenham have got the last laugh.

Manchester United agree Mbeumo deal

As widely reported on Friday (18 July), Manchester United have finally agreed a deal with Brentford for Mbeumo, with the Red Devils set to pay a total package worth £71million.

With the right winger determined to sign at Old Trafford, the Lilywhites turned their attention to Mohammed Kudus and sealed the deal last week.

While Spurs supporters will be disappointed to miss out on Mbeumo, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the club have scored the better deal.

“Mbeumo is joining Manchester United,” Wenham said.

“He made clear that it was his preference. I think if he’d made clear his preference was Tottenham, he’d already be a Tottenham player by now. But he made his preference to United clear, and that’s fair enough.

“It looks like United are going to pay a bit more than they thought they were going to. They’re paying £70m for Mbeumo and we signed Kudus for £55m paid in three instalments, so I think Tottenham got the better deal in the end.”

Kudus offers more than Mbeumo

Mbeumo had a monstrous season in the Premier League last season. But Kudus could be the better signing.

Indeed, the former West Ham player can play across the frontline and is comfortable in the attacking midfield. This means the Ghanaian offers more than Mbeumo, who is better when used in the final third.

Furthermore, recent United signings have struggled to hit the ground running, and it could take time before the club reaps the rewards of their signing.

Therefore, Spurs may look back in a few years, thankful that this summer panned out the way it did.
