Tottenham frustration emerges as Ange Postecoglou drops injury update on Friday

Ange Postecoglou can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to injury setbacks at Tottenham.

The Australian confirmed ahead of the Premier League clash with Newcastle United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday (4 January) that Destiny Udogie will be sidelined for six weeks [via Football London, 3 January].

Postecoglou has seen some fingers pointed at him as a result of these constant injury setbacks [via The Sun, 3 January, page 51], with the Spurs boss also confirming on Friday that Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies aren’t expected to return until the end of January, while Guglielmo Vicario won’t be available for another month after that.

As a result, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is not feeling confident about Spurs’ upcoming fixtures.

“I’m very frustrated,” Wenham said.

“Honestly, what is the point? How much longer can we go on, every week new injury setbacks, new players suspended, and players who are already injured taking longer to return than expected.

“We’ve got games against Newcastle and Liverpool coming up, both teams absolutely flying. It is going to be two more defeats isn’t it, let’s be honest. We’ve had key players out for months, it is so frustrating, and it is starting to wear me down.”

Tottenham down to the bare bones against Newcastle and Liverpool

Luckily for Postecoglou, Spurs shouldn’t need too many of their big-name players when they take on Tamworth in the third round of the FA Cup at the Lamb Ground on Sunday (12 January).

However, ahead of that game, there is the small matter of back-to-back clashes with Newcastle and Liverpool, and although both of these matches are at home, with the number of players ruled out, it is hard to see Spurs producing a win on either occasion.

Therefore, with Postecolou already under serious pressure, there is every chance that he might not be in charge when a depleted Spurs travel to Tamworth next Sunday.
