Tottenham fall victim to Brentford issue amid Yoane Wissa update – Exclusive

Brentford’s Yoane Wissa has been linked with a move to Tottenham.

After what was a remarkably slow start to the summer transfer window, Spurs have accelerated their plans over the last week, with a deal completed for Mohammed Kudus.

However, several others have been linked with a move to Tottenham, including Wissa, who had a successful season under Thomas Frank last season.

Wissa registered an impressive 23 goal contributions in the Premier League for the Bees, which has attracted attention ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

Brentford could be reluctant to sanction Wissa exit

Bryan Mbuemo has also been linked with Tottenham, but a move to Man United is looking like the more likely outcome of that deal.

However, should that one go through, Paul Robinson cannot see the Bees sanctioning an exit for Wissa as well, which could be a blow for Spurs, with the reported £50million pricetag also an issue.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think you’re overpaying, but you’re overpaying for a player who exceeded expectations last year.

“He and Mbuemo carry the mantle, scoring the goals for Brentford. But then, when you look at the deal and how it’s constructed, Brentford have got a real problem because Mbuemo, his head is already on a move to Man United.

“So the problem that Brentford have got is if he doesn’t move, they can’t afford to let both of them go. If this is the first one out the door, if it’s a race and this is the first one out the door, Wissa ends up at Tottenham.

“They’ve got a real problem because if they let Wissa go, and they’ve still got Mbuemo, which from the outside is great. He’s still going to be there. But what mindset is he in? He’s going to be sitting there going, I was going to Manchester United.”

Tottenham still need reinforcements

Once the injury crisis hit last season, the lack of quality depth was exposed, and Spurs must be prepared for that this season.

A new striker could well be high up on their list of priorities, though several other areas will also need attention in the coming weeks.
