Tottenham Expert wowed by Leo Black and Maeson King as senior star comparison made

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham Under-18 fullbacks Leo Black and Maeson King are “the heart of the team” and has likened them to Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro.

Spurs’ Under-18s are flying high this season, currently sitting top of the U18 Premier League South heading into the new year.

While they did lose their final game of 2023, it is hard to deny that the progress this season has been immense as the club continues to improve on the pitch at every level.

Ahead of the winter break for both the Under-18s and Under-21s, Wenham has been reflecting on the season so far for Spurs’ academy prospects and named the players who have stood out to him.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “I have been delighted with the progress of the Under-18s so far this season. I know they lost last time out, but they are still top of the U18 Premier League South and recently recorded a really impressive win at Fulham U18s.

“That is a ground we have historically struggled on, heading into that match we’d lost our last six games against Fulham, so to go there and win comfortably was so impressive.

“We have advanced into the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup where we have been drawn against Burton Albion U18s who beat Aston Villa U18s, which was a real upset.

“Burton Albion are a Category C academy side, so Tottenham will definitely be targeting victory in that game and a chance to advance deeper into the competition.

“Tyrese Hall in midfield and Archie Chaplin at the back have both been standout performers. Kieran Morgan has popped up with a few vital goals recently, which has been good to see. Morgan was originally a centre-back and he’s now playing in a more advanced holding role.

“There have been a few other standout players, goalkeeper Carey Bloedorn was recently called up for an England goalkeeper training camp for the first time, but the heart of the team has been the fullbacks.

“King and Black have both been bombing into midfield in a similar way to how Porro and Udogie do for the first team, Stuart Lewis is doing a fantastic job and long may it continue.”

In other Tottenham news, one 92 per cent first-team star has proven to be the club’s unlikely hero in recent weeks.
