Tottenham expert suggests takeover on the cards as Daniel Levy replacement named

Tottenham could be in for another major change as the Lilywhites’ future continues to look uncertain.

There has been little time to come up for air as Spurs push through one of their most hectic periods in the last 20 years.

Daniel Levy stepped down as Tottenham chairman after almost 25 years at the helm. The news has produced mixed reactions from the footballing world, with Tottenham fans glad of Levy’s departure while Arsenal supporters are bitter.

It has been suggested that Levy’s exit could cause financial hardship at Tottenham. While he was rarely praised for his sporting decisions, his business affairs at the North London club were excellent.

But the former Spurs chairman’s leaving his role may have opened up new possibilities for the Lilywhites.

Peter Charrington’s appointment could spark a Tottenham takeover

Tottenham named Peter Charrington as their new non-executive chairman after the departure of Levy.

Charrington is the former CEO of Citi Private Bank and currently works as a director at ENIC. It would not be too ambitious to imagine that Charrington’s financial background could be an advantage or his new position.

In turn, this could see Spurs make smarter decisions in the transfer window. However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes his background suggests a sale could be on the cards.

“Massive change at the club,” Wenham said.

“Does that mean that a sale of the club is now up and coming? We look at Peter Charrington’s record and history working as an ex-banker involved in multiple mergers and acquisitions of companies over the years, and you do wonder if he’s now been brought in with that in mind. A sale by the Lewis family from America.

“I know his daughter, Vivian, has become increasingly in attendance at Tottenham’s home games. So you do wonder if that younger generation of the family now wants to push on and sell the club.”

Would new owners benefit Tottenham?

Joe Lewis seems to be committed to taking Tottenham into a new direction. This is clear from the Lilywhites’ movements in the recent summer market.

The last-minute transfer of Randal Kolo Muani to Tottenham and Xavi Simons seems like calls that Levy would have struggled to make. This suggests that the Lewis family had taken a more active role in the club before Levy’s departure was announced.

As such, a net spend of around £150m seems to have caution out the wind, which was a key principle Spurs abided by under Levy.

Thus, the Lewis family seems committed to bringing in top talent at Tottenham, which means that a takeover at the moment seems less beneficial.
