Tottenham Expert: Sergio Reguilon must be moved on after Fabrizio Romano update this week

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham should be focused on ensuring that Sergio Reguilon is “moved on” in January.

Reguilon was recently sent back to Spurs from his season-long loan at Manchester United after the Red Devils activated a break clause in the Spanaird’s loan agreement (Manchester United Official Website, 4 January).

As per Fabrizio Romano via his personal X account (14 January), Brentford are now interested in the left-back, who is also a target for other clubs and is expected to leave Tottenham this month.

With this in mind, Wenham believes that the club should be doing what they can to move him on and respect Ange Postecoglou’s wishes.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “With Reguilon, he just needs to go.

“Postecoglou gave him a really good look in preseason, so supporters cannot say that he has been moved on immediately without a fair opportunity.

“That’s not the case. He played in all four preseason games, and Postecoglou would have taken a close look in training as well and made that decision that he is not the left-back for him.”

The 27-year-old has made 67 appearances for Tottenham since he joined the club from Real Madrid in a move which was worth up to £32million (Sky Sports News, 19 September 2020).

He made an impressive start to life in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho but has since fallen out of favour in North London, being sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid for the 2022/23 season before joining up with Manchester United this past September.

In other Tottenham news, one Sky Sports pundit has reacted to news that one in-form Spurs star could be on the move in January.
