Tottenham Expert reveals Eric Dier ‘has no future’ in north London amid defensive crisis
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham believes that Eric Dier has “no future” at Tottenham and has slammed the club’s defensive options, labelling them “not good enough”.
Ange Postecoglou’s side find themselves in the middle of a defensive crisis at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Micky van de Ven remains sidelined with a long-term hamstring injury with Cristian Romero now set to join him on the treatment table after being ruled out for four to five weeks with a hamstring issue of his own.

This leaves Dier and 18-year-old Ashley Phillips as the club’s only two fit senior centre-backs.
Once again Postecoglou will be forced to name a makeshift back-four over the coming weeks, as he waits until either a new signing walks through the door at Hotspur Way or one of his injured stars returns from injury.
Wenham has reflected on the current situation and believes the club must improve the quality of options at the back.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Dier has basically been told he has no future at the club, and that has been made very clear by his lack of appearances. Phillips has never started a Premier League game.
“I know that Ben Davies has done well, and fair play to him because he hasn’t let anyone down, but these options are not good enough.”

Dier has just six months left on his Tottenham contract with no signs pointing toward a renewal. With January around the corner, the Englishman could be tempted to look for an exit route out of north London.
The 29-year-old joined Spurs in 2014, scoring on his debut in a 1-0 win at West Ham. He has gone on to make 363 appearances for the club and play for England 49 times.
However, he has made just three Premier League appearances this season and it looks as if his 10-year stay with Tottenham is now coming to an end.
In other Tottenham news, one pundit would be “thrilled” if the club could get their top priority signing across the line in January.
