Tottenham Expert reacts to ‘outstanding’ Brighton injury news

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham insists there are “no excuses” for Tottenham not to win at Brighton after the “outstanding” Kaoru Mitoma was ruled out of the clash.

Spurs will travel to the Amex Stadium on Thursday 28 December looking to win their fourth consecutive league game, but will be without star defender Cristian Romero who is set for an extended spell on the sidelines as a result of a hamstring injury (Football London, 27 December).

However, the hosts have injury troubles of their own, with Mitoma now set to miss the visit of Tottenham as he faces up to six weeks out of action due to an ankle injury (The Athletic, 27 December).

With this in mind, Wenham believes that Ange Postecoglou’s men should be confident of claiming all three points on the south coast, even without Romero.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Mitoma is ruled out for Brighton, which is a massive boost for Tottenham.

“In my opinion, he’s an outstanding player and one of the best outside of the Premier League’s traditional ‘top six’ without any shadow of a doubt.

“He could walk into many of the league’s top teams, so him being unavailable is huge. In addition to that, Brighton’s league form generally actually hasn’t been very good.

“They’ve got two Premier League wins in the last 12 and they have conceded a goal in their last 36 matches, no clean sheets at all in that time.

“Therefore, Tottenham have got to go there confident. If we can get a goal early as we have done in so many games recently then we’ve got a very good chance of winning the game.

“I know Brighton is a tough place to go, but there are no excuses for Tottenham, we’ve got to go there and get the job done, despite missing Cristian Romero.”

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou will regret letting one 100% player go as he continues to shine away from the club.
