Tottenham Expert: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg must be moved on as he is ‘not in the plans’ of Ange Postecoglou

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes that Tottenham should look to try and sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this month as he “is obviously not in the plans” of Ange Postecoglou.

Hojbjerg has started just five Premier League games since the Australian took over at the beginning of the season.

He has been linked with a move away, with Sky Sports News reporting online in their live Transfer Centre (16 January, 5:48 pm) that Spurs are in “no rush” when it comes to the future of the Denmark international midfielder, which is “set to go down to the final days of the transfer window.”

The North London side are set to weigh up at the end of the window whether there is a chance to move Hojbjerg on and bring a replacement in, although they will not accept any “cut-price deals” for the 28-year-old who has attracted interest from Juventus and Napoli, as well as other sides in the Premier League.

With this in mind, Wenham believes the club should be looking to move the player on so that they can continue making progress on the squad.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “A lot of work still needs to be done in central midfield, and I think that Tottenham should look to try and sell Hojberg, who only has 18 months left on his deal in North London, this month.

“Only then do I think that they will push on and look to sign another midfielder, which would be another big part of the rebuild that we’re currently seeing at the club.

“From what we have seen this season, Hojbjerg is obviously not in the plans.”
