Tottenham expert drops ‘disaster draw’ verdict ahead of Spurs v Manchester City FA Cup clash
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham believes the fourth-round FA Cup clash between Tottenham and Manchester City was a “disaster draw” for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Ange Postecoglou and his players will welcome last season’s FA Cup winners to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday 26 January with a place in the fifth round of England’s oldest cup competition at stake.
Manchester City have visited Spurs’ new ground five times since it opened in 2019 and are yet to win or score at the stadium.
While plenty of Spurs supporters would have been left frustrated after drawing last season’s treble winners so early in the competition, Wenham believes the frustration will be equal for their opposition.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “For Manchester City, playing Tottenham away from home was arguably their worst possible draw.
“They have so many other games to think about with the likes of their UEFA Champions League campaign, and with the Club World Cup, they have already played so many more games than us this season.
“For them, this is the equivalent of us getting Chelsea away in the cup, it is a disaster draw.
“I saw lots of their fans really worried about it and panicking and they’re right to feel that way.

“It is an evening kick-off, the atmosphere will be amazing, and if we could beat them can you imagine the momentum we would then take forward, it would be off the scale.”
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou will be eager for one of his midfielders to return from the African Cup of Nations after what he did at the tournament.
