Tottenham Expert details ‘phenomenal losses’ of two key Brentford players ahead of Wednesday

Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…

John Wenham believes Tottenham will have “too much for Brentford,” who will be without two of their key stars.

Ange Postecoglou’s side will welcome the Bees to North London for some midweek Premier League action on Wednesday 31 January.

Spurs will be looking to bounce back after they were eliminated from the FA Cup via a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Friday 26 January.

Thomas Frank’s men won this same fixture 3-1 last season (20 May 2023) as Bryan Mbeumo scored a brace before Yoane Wissa netted a third late on after Harry Kane had opened the scoring.

However, the visitors will be without both of those players, with Mbeumo out injured and Wissa competing at the African Cup of Nations with DR Congo.

As a result, Wenham feels much more confident going into the match.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Brentford will be without Wissa and Mbeumo, two phenomenal losses for them.

“Their form when Ivan Toney was absent, I feel went under the radar, and the reason Brentford coped so well without Toney is because of those two.

“They can cause teams serious problems. When we lost to Brentford in this same fixture last season toward the end of the campaign, those two ran riot that day.

“In the absence of Wissa and Mbeumo, I just see us having too much for Brentford.”

In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou could be set to axe one forward for the visit of their London rivals.
