Tottenham Expert: Bryan Gil should be sold after Fabrizio Romano update this week
Tottenham News is delighted to welcome John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose as our exclusive columnist. Each week, he’ll be giving his expert insight on the biggest talking points at Spurs…
John Wenham believes Bryan Gil should be sold permanently rather than sent out on loan as “he is not going to make it at Tottenham.”
Gil has struggled ever since arriving in the Premier League two and a half years ago and has spent most of his Spurs career out on loan in La Liga, first with Valencia and then his former side Sevilla.
As per Fabrizio Romano via his personal X account (9 January), Fiorentina and Feyenoord are both interested in signing the out-of-favour winger on loan in January.
Reacting to this update, Wenham has suggested that a temporary switch is not the way forward for the Spaniard.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham said: “Gil is an obvious one for me to leave the club. However, I don’t see the point in him heading out on another loan abroad.
“Some people have said to me that a loan move would increase his value and the chances of him moving on permanently, but I don’t see how.
“He literally went out on loan last year, won the UEFA Europa League with Sevilla and played a really good part in that, and it still didn’t lead to a permanent move.

“Unfortunately, it looks like he is not going to make it at Tottenham, I think we’re at that crossroads now, and I just think the club need to sell him, even if it’s quite a low initial fee, but there’s huge add-ons involved, that could perhaps work for a Spanish club.
“He needs to go, I just don’t see him getting the game time, especially when Manor Solomon comes back from injury and obviously with Timo Werner now able to play in the exact same position as him.”
In other Tottenham news, Wenham has described a recent addition to the Spurs squad as a “Fabio Paratici masterstroke.”
