Tottenham Exclusive: Loan exit derailed after crushing Solanke news

Dominic Solanke’s injury setback has negatively impacted one of his Tottenham teammates.

Ange Postecoglou has confirmed that Solanke faces six weeks on the sidelines through injury [via Football London, 23 January] – with Spurs backed to sign a striker playing his football in France as a result [via GiveMeSport, 15 January].

While this of course comes as a blow to both Postecoglou and Spurs supporters, it perhaps comes as an even bigger blow to Will Lankshear.

Many would assume that Lankshear would benefit from Solanke’s absence by seeing his opportunities to play for the first team increase. However, as revealed exclusively by Tottenham News on 21 January, the 19-year-old is keen to leave Spurs on loan before the winter transfer window shuts.

And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – claims Solanke’s injury has caused a potential transfer away from the club for Lankshear to break down.

“I think Lankshear was quite close to leaving on loan already,” Wenham said.

“It sounds like the Solanke injury halted that move. Therefore, I imagine if Spurs sign another striker, Lankshear’s loan move can be resurrected very quickly, and he will leave.

“However, as of now, he is staying put. It was good to see him come on against Hoffenheim, and hopefully, he can get some minutes off the bench against Leicester.”

Will Lankshear to remain at Tottenham beyond 3 February?

Spurs currently have an unprecedented amount of players unavailable due to injury. Therefore, the club cannot afford to let Lankshear leave.

And if the 19-year-old’s chances of leaving are dependent on Spurs signing a new striker, the youngster would be wise not to hold his breath.

Lankshear is already thought to be unhappy in North London and keen to secure a move away.

Therefore, the youngster is unlikely to be best pleased after discovering that a potential loan exit has broken down.

In other Tottenham news, Harry Redknapp has shared a “serious” Postecoglou sack claim.
