‘Tottenham could pay premium for £70m Gibbs-White transfer’ after saga – Exclusive

Tottenham have not had it all their way as they try to back Thomas Frank in the transfer market.

The Lilywhites have already completed several deals, with Mohammed Kudus the standout signing from West Ham.

However, their pursuit of Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White has turned into something of a soap opera.

Tottenham could make separate bid for Gibbs-White

Spurs reportedly triggered Gibbs-White’s £60million release clause, with the player expected to travel for his medical.

However, Forest looked into reporting Tottenham to the Premier League over an alleged illegal approach for the 25-year-old.

Football finance expert Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has addressed the saga, sharing how it could yet still happen.

“Yes is the short answer to that,” he said when asked if Spurs could just now make a higher bid of £70million for Gibbs-White.

“There’s absolutely that scenario of, if you do want that player, and you are now dealing directly with the selling club and speaking to Forest.

“This was part of the problem here with the way this has played out, it seems Forest are saying, well, you’ve not contacted us to even engage, so somebody’s leaked that close to you because really you shouldn’t know about it.

“Now, you could say that Spurs could come back with, well, we’ll do this properly now, and we want to have a conversation about signing that player.

“We’ll start at £70million because we’re sorry we did this before, but we’ve seen how Forest have acted in other cases and the way their owner tends to tackle these things.

“They could dig their heels in and go down the legal road, and that could close the door completely.

“All kinds of scenarios are on the table, but you would imagine now, certainly with the way this has played out, that Forest will dig their heels in with the legal side of things.

“If Spurs want this player, then they’re going to have to pay over the release clause, and then you’re into conversations about how much is the demand, and are Spurs willing to pay that?”

Spurs must make Gibbs-White decision

While Tottenham may still want Gibbs-White, there is much that needs to be resolved before that can happen.

Now, the North London outfit must decide whether they want to wait for the midfielder or pursue fresh targets.

While there is plenty of time left in the transfer window, the Premier League season is on the horizon.
