Tottenham confusion emerges after ‘strange’ Ange Postecoglou decision
John Wenham doesn’t understand why Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was substituted against Roma.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels as though the 27-year-old should have played the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 UEFA Europa League draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday [28 November].
Lucas Bergvall replaced Bentancur in the 78th minute of the match.
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels as though Postecoglou’s side lost control at this point.
“Bringing Bentancur off changed the whole game for me,” Wenham said.
“I found it really strange that Postecoglou chose to do that. Bentancur is banned from domestic games. Therefore, for me, I feel as though he should have played the whole game.
“It really felt as though we lost some authority in the match when Bergvall came on for Bentancur. Roma really upped the ante and scored what I feel was a deserved equaliser.”
Ange Postecoglou baffles with Rodrigo Bentancur decision at Tottenham
Spurs would have been disappointed not to see out the win against Roma, with one player letting Postecoglou down in the match after a “ridiculous” incident.
It felt as though the visitors took control of the match in the final 15 minutes, which was around the time Bentancur was brought off.
Therefore, had he remained on the pitch it might have been a different story.

And considering the amount of injury issues Postecoglou is struggling with at the moment, and the fact that Bentancur can only play in Europe for the foreseeable future, it seems strange that the Uruguay international didn’t last the whole match.
