Tottenham can find new solution as ‘costly’ legal saga linked to Harry Kane emerges
Tottenham and INEOS are currently embroiled in legal disputes, but there could be a solution in sight for both.
Spurs and Manchester United were inseparable last season, with the pair struggling at the bottom of the Premier League.
Tottenham dealt Ruben Amorim’s side the ultimate sucker punch in the Europa League, with the Lilywhites toppling the Red Devils 1-0 in the final.
Now, INEOS and the North London club are in a second legal dispute involving Bayern Munich star Harry Kane and his move to Germany.

This story includes exclusive comment from football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley.
INEOS and Tottenham set for out-of-court settlement
Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS is countersuing Tottenham for over £1million as they have been accused of holding sponsorship talks with Audi linked to the sale of Kane to Bayern Munich.
The latest news came after reports emerged that Spurs were suing Ineos for more than £11m over allegations it breached a five-year, minimum £17.5m deal signed in 2022.
Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley has provided insight into the situation.
“You would still say so, yes,” he exclusively told Tottenham News when asked if an out-of-court settlement on both counts was likely.
“But certainly a case of egos at play to a degree as well, and this is what you get with these kinds of cases.
“We haven’t seen the full detail of it yet, it’ll be interesting to see it as it progresses, but yes, it’s going to be something that could get quite protracted, could get quite costly, as we know with these legal things.
- Kane joined Bayern in 2023 for an initial fee of £82m
- This made him the most expensive transfer sale of all time at Tottenham
- He has since scored 91 goals in 99 games for Bayern
“But also, one of those that is kind of in your mind is likely to be some sort of out-of-court settlement when all’s said and done.
“Again, let’s see where it goes because, as I say, you’re dealing with big egos as well, and we’ve seen a lot of these cases recently, and this is another example of a very costly and probably protracted exercise.”

Spurs can get one over Man United on the pitch
While legal proceedings are far from ideal, the best thing the Lilywhites can do is topple Manchester United on the pitch, similar to last season.
Although both teams faltered last season, they have begun the 2025/26 campaign in differing fashion.
Tottenham have started in fine fettle, with two wins from two, including a Premier League victory over Man City at the Etihad.
As for United, they fell to a humiliating penalty shootout defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup this week.
When Spurs and the Red Devils meet, there will be more than just football riding on the encounter.
