Tottenham ‘Building towards the future’ amid recent developments at Under-18 level
John Wenham of Lilywhite Rose has shared how Tottenham are “building towards the future” after a recent development at Under-18 level.
It has been a big season for the young talent at Hotspur Way.
Spurs’ Under-21s are close to securing the Premier League 2 title, while several exciting players have emerged in what has been a positive season for the Under-18s.
Amid a recent 2-2 draw with Southampton Under-18s (9 March), Wenham has revealed how Spurs used that match as an opportunity to start thinking ahead to next season.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Wenham, the founder of reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose, said: “It was frustrating that they drew with Southampton, but what I was pleased to see was that some of the Under-16s who will be coming up next year and signing scholarships were playing in that match.
“A couple of those players were playing for the first time and looked good, so it indicates that Tottenham are building towards the future.
“And for those players to help Tottenham get a draw against Southampton, who are always a good side at youth level, that is no disgrace.”
Ange Postecoglou must start to take advantage of the young Tottenham talent at his disposal
It is all well and good Spurs having young players excelling within the club’s academy, but those players will want to see a pathway to the first team.
Tyrese Hall is a recent example of a player who has moved up to the Under-21s after a string of impressive displays with the Under-18s, and he will want to know that there is an opportunity to take that next step.
The same can be said for players even as young as 16 at Hotspur Way.
Even though they have plenty of years of development ahead of them, they will want to develop at a club where there is a real opportunity for progression.

Ange Postecoglou must now prove to those players that there will be opportunities to make a name for themselves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has signed off on a business move which he did not need to make.
