Tottenham: BBC Sport pundit shocked that Leeds United want to sign Ben Davies in January transfer window
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Paul Robinson has dismissed the chance that Leeds United would have any hope of signing Ben Davies from Tottenham before the end of the transfer window.
Journalist Ben Jacobs reported on 20 January [GiveMeSport] that the Welshman was somebody the Elland Road side were working on this month in the hope that changes in the Spurs squad might make him available prior to the deadline.
Ange Postecoglou was faced with an crisis in defence heading into the New Year and had just started Davies, 30, for nine-straight Premier League games at centre-back.
But the Australian has since signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa since the window opened, and both Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero have returned from injuries to potentially leave Davies on the outside looking in again.
However, BBC Sport pundit Robinson is certain that should the full-back leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for anywhere before the end of 1 February he will be remaining in the top flight and not dropping down a division to the second tier.
Davies is approaching a decade at the club and despite being the starting left-back for the past two seasons is now behind Destiny Udogie at his preferred spot in Postecoglou’s strongest XI.

“I can’t see that happening at the start of the window either, or at any point ever,” the ex-England keeper exclusively told Tottenham News.
“If Ben Davies was going to leave Tottenham it would be for a Premier League side.
“It wouldn’t be for a title-chasing Championship side.”
In other Tottenham news, Spurs have however been tipped to have a chance to complete a deal in the opposite direction for one in-demand player.
