Tottenham background talks mooted for new transfer amid ‘phenomenal’ development

Tottenham are yet to sign an outfield player in the winter transfer window.

Daniel Levy appeared to understand the seriousness of the club’s injury crisis after he got himself personally involved to seal the signing of Antonín Kinský early on in the window.

However, since the goalkeeper’s arrival, the club haven’t brought in any new players, with Spurs’ depleted squad struggling on the pitch and Ange Postecoglou under pressure as a result.

Postecoglou recently confirmed that Dominic Solanke will be sidelined for six weeks [via Football London, 23 January].

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is hopeful that talks are now ongoing to bring in a new striker before 3 February.

“Solanke being ruled out for six weeks is awful news,” Wenham said.

“Whatever the club have been doing for the last few weeks hasn’t been good enough in terms of supporting the manager with signings. Therefore, hopefully, this acts as a wake-up call.

“Losing your best player for six weeks is a phenomenal blow. Therefore, I’d imagine that talks are now going on in the background to get a new striker through the door as soon as possible.”

Tottenham to sign striker after Dominic Solanke injury news?

Solanke will miss the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield on Thursday 6 February. Therefore, a new striker must be brought in with that match in mind as Postecoglou’s future at the club is expected to depend on the outcome on Merseyside.

While Richarlison is currently fit and available, there is no guarantee that he will remain fit, which would leave 19-year-old Will Lankshear as the club’s most senior striking option – provided he doesn’t leave on loan before the window closes.

Many people often suggest that the winter transfer window is a difficult time to get deals done. However, this excuse is simply not good enough, and Levy needs to provide some support to Postecoglou.
