Tottenham backed to seal £10m agreement with Leeds over Archie Gray
Manor Solomon could play a part in reducing Archie Gray’s transfer fee – despite Tottenham signing the midfielder from Leeds United last summer.
Spurs paid £30million to sign Gray from Leeds [via BBC Sport, 2 July 2024], with the 18-year-old’s long-term prospects in North London looking good after his start to life at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
That wasn’t the only transfer business the two clubs did last summer, with Manor Solomon joining the Whites on a season-long loan from Tottenham, and the forward has already been mooted to make this move permanent for £10million.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested that instead of the Whites paying this £10million in cash, they could instead offer Spurs a discount on Gray.
“I would presume that Leeds signing Solomon depends on the club getting promoted,” Wenham said.
“However, they did sign Joe Rodon from us without getting promoted, and a lot of that was to do with us putting big money down on the table for Gray.
“Therefore, it could be a scenario where we’re paying for Gray in three instalments of £10million and instead of paying the last instalment, we send Solomon to Leeds permanently.
“Clubs do those sorts of deals all the time. As a result, that is a possibility.”
Tottenham to use Manor Solomon to reduce Archie Gray fee?
Gray has impressed while playing out of position in his first few months as a Spurs player. He is still also just 18 years old. Therefore, should he go on to fulfil his potential, the £30million paid for him would look like an absolute steal.
With that in mind, if there is any way to reduce the fee to £20million, that would be even more incredible.
Solomon doesn’t appear to have much of a future in North London, and a move next summer might make sense, especially if Ange Postecoglou is still in the hot seat at Tottenham – with the Australian seemingly not keen on the forward.

Therefore, if Solomon can be used to save Spurs £10million, it is hard to see the club not capitalising.
