Tottenham backed to hire Carlo Ancelotti as talks held

Carlo Ancelotti is in talks to leave Real Madrid, with Daniel Levy potentially set to appoint a new manager at Tottenham.

It has been a disastrous season for Ange Postecoglou and his players, who are preparing to take on Liverpool in the Premier League at Anfield on Sunday (27 April).

However, supporters are unlikely to be too concerned by the outcome of this clash.

All that matters now for Spurs is the UEFA Europa League, with the first leg of the Lilywhites’ semi-final against Bodø/Glimt to come at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May).

However, even if Postecoglou ends Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought by lifting the Europa League in May, the Australian is still expected to leave Tottenham.

Ancelotti backed to replace Postecoglou at Tottenham

With Postecoglou’s departure likely, Levy will need to hire yet another new manager at Tottenham, with Ancelotti expected to leave Real Madrid.

Paul Robinson believes Tottenham will have their work cut out for them if they want to appoint Ancelotti, who is now in talks over his next job after Real Madrid.

Ancelotti has experience winning trophies in England

As reported by BBC Sport (27 April), the 65-year-old is set for further talks about taking over as Brazil manager before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – would welcome the former Everton and Chelsea manager to North London.

“My immediate thought is that we would struggle to attract Ancelotti,” Wenham said.

“However, the fact that he has managed in England twice before at two different clubs, including Everton, tells me that he likes working in England.

“Would I take somebody with his level of experience, a proven winner, and someone who seems to get on with players and doesn’t have ego issues like some of our past managers, of course I would. However, these conversations are far more realistic if we’re in the UEFA Champions League.”

Ancelotti would transform Tottenham

Ancelotti is a manager who has won the biggest trophies there are to win in Europe, and is proven at the highest level. Therefore, if Levy could convince the Italian to join Tottenham, it would be a real coup.

However, with talks with Brazil already underway, it looks as though Tottenham would need to move fast if they want to land Ancelotti.
