Tottenham backed to finalise ‘major’ Conor Gallagher signing as £40m Chelsea transfer news emerges
Bryan King has backed Tottenham to take advantage of Chelsea’s financial struggles and complete the signing of Conor Gallagher amid a recent transfer update.
The ex-Spurs scout feels that Gallagher would be a brilliant addition to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
It comes after an update in The Sun (12 April) claiming that Spurs will look to tie up a quick deal for the midfielder this summer with financial issues at Chelsea meaning the club will be forced to sell players before 1 July.
The Blues will be looking for £40million, and King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that the singing is a no-brainer for Spurs.
“If they could bring Gallagher to the club, that would be a major signing for Tottenham,” King said.
“He would certainly strengthen the squad and I think he could form an exciting relationship in midfield with James Maddison.
“When you look at Chelsea at the moment, the last thing Gallagher would want to be doing as captain is sorting out arguments between players over who is going to take a penalty.
“Mauricio Pochettino won’t want to lose Gallagher, but he might not be left with much choice as a result of the financial situation at Chelsea.”
Could Tottenham sign Conor Gallagher to play under Ange Postecoglou?
Gallagher has enjoyed a largely positive season with Chelsea, despite the club’s on-and-off form.
Postecoglou has identified the Englishman as a player who could fit seamlessly into his system, and Daniel Levy should therefore do everything he can to make a deal happen.

The Blues and Pochettino won’t be keen on losing Gallagher, especially to such a fierce rival, which could make the transfer even more tempting for Tottenham.
In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy has been praised for the sale of Dele Alli despite a multi-million Everton update this week.
