Tottenham backed to complete ‘Next Level’ Ivan Toney signing amid recent transfer news
Bryan King believes Tottenham must focus their attention on signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney after a recent transfer update.
The ex-Spurs scout feels that the 28-year-old can take the club to the “next level”.
It comes after the Mexican outlet Medio Tiempo reported (23 April) that Tottenham hold an interest in Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez, with the player’s representatives already in Europe to begin having meetings with clubs interested in the 22-year-old.
Despite these links, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has urged Spurs to abandon this pursuit and instead do their shopping in England.
“Toney, that is who Tottenham need to go and sign,” King said.
“He is worth the extra money, and if Spurs want to move to the next level that is the player they need to convince to join them.
“Spurs need to make that step and guarantee they will finish in the top four next season, and Toney is the player who will help them do that.
“They can go through Europe and pick out centre-forwards if they like, but Toney is an England international, Premier League proven and he is the player that the club need to replace Harry Kane.”
Tottenham could make a statement by signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney
Gimenez is doing well in the Eredivisie, having scored 36 goals across the past two seasons.
However, Spurs supporters won’t need reminding of what happened the last time they signed a high-flying striker from Holland.
Vincent Janssen was tearing up the scoring charts with AZ Alkmaar, but he could never translate that form to the Premier League.

Signing Gimenez would be a risk, whereas by bringing in Toney, Tottenham would be signing a player who they know is capable of finding the back of the net in English football.
In other Tottenham news, the club could be swimming in cash after a new £60million-a-year calculation emerged.
