Timo Werner to make £34m+ Tottenham demand amid Fabrizio Romano update
John Wenham believes Timo Werner’s wages could be a “huge issue” which prevents Tottenham from making his stay permanent.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose podcast feels that Werner will not accept anything less from Spurs than what he is currently being paid by RB Leipzig.
It comes after Fabrizio Romano reported via X (8 April) that the German is keen to make his loan stay in North London permanent.
However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that Spurs could be put off by the type of money the 28-year-old might demand.
“One thing that hasn’t been considered among Tottenham supporters is Werner’s wages,” Wenham said.
“He is on about £165,000 per week at RB Leipzig, which would make him one of the highest earners at Tottenham.
“Werner is not going to accept a wage reduction moving to the Premier League in the prime of his career.
“He will be looking for at least £165,000 per week over a four-year contract, which is around £34.3million. That is a huge financial outlay, and it could lead to other players at the club asking for more money.”
“This must therefore be considered, yes the buy option is reasonable, but the wages could prove to be a huge issue.”
Should Tottenham sign Timo Werner permanently to play under Ange Postecoglou?
Spurs might be better off avoiding the permanent signing of Werner.
For the amount of money Tottenham would be required to pay on both his wages and transfer fee, the North London side would be better suited to investing that kind of money in a young forward with more potential.
Werner has made a decent impact on loan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he has hardly set the Premier League alight.
Therefore, unless he is willing to accept a pay cut or goes on an incredible scoring run, he might not get his desired move to Spurs after all.
