Timo Werner ‘surprise’ claim made as Tottenham transfer stance emerges

Bryan King admits he was surprised that Tottenham ever signed Timo Werner.

The ex-Spurs scout doesn’t think Ange Postecoglou’s side should be considering bringing the German to the club permanently.

According to Give Me Sport [26 November], Tottenham have refused to rule out the possibility of making Werner’s loan switch from RB Leipzig a permanent move.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks there are more important positions to prioritise.

“I don’t think Spurs should sign Werner permanently,” King said.

“There are more important positions to be sorted out, they already have enough wide players at the club. It was a surprise for me when he joined Spurs in the first place.

“For me, he’s not a Tottenham player. He’s come into the club, he’s obviously been professional in his attitude. However, I just don’t see him as a Spurs player.”

Tottenham to sign Timo Werner permanently from RB Leipzig?

Werner has proven this season that he cannot be trusted to perform consistently.

All in all, he has been a pretty underwhelming addition to Postecoglou’s squad, starting just two Premier League matches so far this season.

Therefore, if Spurs did decide to sign him, it would be understandable for supporters to be upset and view that move as a lack of ambition from the club’s owners, something they are often guilty of [via The Athletic, 18 November].

However, luckily for Spurs, while a permanent move hasn’t necessarily been ruled out, it looks less and less likely after another player was linked with a move to North London [via Give Me Sport, 27 November].
