Thomas Tuchel ‘unimpressed by James Maddison’ in Tottenham defeat v Everton
James Maddison struggled to make an impact as Tottenham were beaten 3-2 by Everton on Sunday.
Ange Postecoglou is facing the sack in North London, with the ugly scenes after full-time at Goodison Park on 19 January signs of a manager in trouble.
Son Heung-min was also subject to abuse from those in attendance on Sunday. Meanwhile, in the case of Maddison, he would have been less interested in the opinions of fans, and more concerned by what Thomas Tuchel thought of his display, with the England boss watching on at Goodison.
However, according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – the German wouldn’t have liked what he saw.
“Tuchel was present at Goodison Park,” King said.
“He wouldn’t have been impressed by Maddison’s performance. In terms of England midfielders, he is well down the pecking order.
“Tuchel wouldn’t have been impressed at all because Maddison didn’t impose himself on the game. For what he has done in football, he should have been competing much more with Everton.”

With Tuchel in attendance, and Maddison starting for the first time in five Premier League matches, this was the perfect opportunity for the 28-year-old to demonstrate to the new England manager what he is about.
However, Spurs’ number 10 failed to do that and was largely nowhere to be seen at Goodison.
Therefore, at this current moment in time, it is difficult to imagine that too many Spurs supporters would be sad to see the former Leicester City man leave.
An exit for Maddison has already been mooted after his lack of game time as of late, and if he continues to play as he did against Everton, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him benched again.
