Thomas Frank’s future now looks set in stone after ‘incredible’ turn of events at Tottenham

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank has had a difficult few months since joining the club.

Frank was expected to turn Spurs’ fortunes around after a miserable Premier League campaign under Ange Postecoglou.

However, the ex-Brentford boss is already under sack pressure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after a dismal start to the season.

His side are out of both domestic cups and sit 14th in the league, but he is still expected to avoid the sack for one specific reason.

Why Thomas Frank is set to avoid Tottenham sack

John Wenham believes that Frank will avoid the sack after the 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund last time out.

The owner of the popular Lilywhite Rose account on X, thinks that the Dane’s future rests on the Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt on 28 January.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, he said: “I think now, basically, that was such an unexpected result, let’s be honest. Dortmund have lost once the entire season, we’re losing at home to all sorts of people every single week.

“Albeit our record in Europe this year has been very impressive, but nobody expected that result and it absolutely has given him, if you ask me, even if we were to lose at Turf Moor this weekend, the fact that we can go to Frankfurt, who already can’t qualify, we won there last year and with a win, we’ll probably finish fourth or third in that Champions League group stage thing, it’s just incredible.

“So I think regardless of what happens at Burnley this weekend, even if the worst happened and Tottenham lose and even if they lost heavily, I think because they can go to Frankfurt and win, that has bought him a significant amount of time.

“Quite possibly [until the end of the season] now. I think the fact that we will be going through, as a minimum we’ll have the knockouts, but I think Tottenham feel like they can go to Frankfurt and win and as I said, that advances them through to the last 16 of the Champions League.

“It’s a massive thing for him, and I think the club will see that.”

How far can Tottenham go in the Champions League?

The Lilywhites’ form in Europe could very well be the thing that keeps the 52-year-old in the job.

If Spurs qualify in the top eight and avoid a knockout play-off match, it would be a brilliant achievement.

There are doubts over whether they have the ability within the squad to go all the way to the final as Mauricio Pochettino’s side did in 2019.

However, who knows what will happen, once you are in the latter stages, anything is possible; it depends on the luck of the draw.
