Thomas Frank told to make swift Mathys Tel call amid ‘very frustrating’ Tottenham development

Thomas Frank has been told that he “must” make a prompt decision regarding Mathys Tel at Tottenham.

The youngster has found regular gametime hard to come by in the early stages of the new Premier League season, as he has started just three of the opening 11 games in the league.

Tel continues to make the most of his opportunities at Tottenham, and he netted a crucial goal in the 2-2 draw with Manchester United last weekend.

Frank dealt a major blow to the former Bayern Munich starlet earlier in the campaign, and he now faces a potentially crucial decision on him in difficult circumstances.

Thomas Frank ‘must’ add Mathys Tel to the Champions League squad at Tottenham

Tel was left out of Tottenham’s squad for the Champions League earlier in the campaign, but that could be about to change after an unfortunate moment for Randal Kolo Muani.

The striker collided with Harry Maguire during Saturday’s game and has suffered a suspected fractured jaw, which may potentially rule him out for up to two months.

That would hand the Lilywhites the option of replacing him in their Champions League squad, and they would then be able to reinstate him if they were to qualify for the next phase of the competition, according to The Standard.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that it is a no-brainer for Frank to add Tel to his European group in the wake of Kolo Muani’s latest injury.

“Frank must add him (Tel) to the squad,” King said.

“Centre forward is one of the main positions, and if you’re going to lose one of your main men there, then I would certainly be looking to bring him in. That decision has got to be made after the international break.

“It’ll be very frustrating for Frank, but if Kolo Muani is out with a broken jaw, then it has to be done.”

Mathys Tel’s attitude deserves Champions League reprieve

Tel’s future at Tottenham came into question when he was initially left out of the Champions League squad, and it would have been easy for him to begin to drop his standards in protest.

Instead, he has worked hard and proved his worth to Frank, and he was able to show that again on Saturday, when he changed the game in the latter stages after being introduced.

The 21-year-old appears to have displayed an exemplary attitude since his high-profile snub earlier in the campaign, and for that reason alone, he is certainly deserving of the chance to impress in European action.

The opportunity has presented itself in unfortunate circumstances for Spurs, but Kolo Muani’s loss could be about to become Tel’s gain.
