Thomas Frank banished forgotten Tottenham star from training as transfer to Sevilla mooted
Tottenham have made it no secret that one forward’s time in North London is coming to an end.
The Lilywhites have seen several departures these past couple of weeks.
Son Heung-min’s transfer to LAFC is the most notable one. After almost a decade in North London, he was applauded off in Spurs’ pre-match friendly game against Newcastle United.
Daniel Levy has also gotten several loan spells over the line. Mikey Moore has joined Rangers for the season, while Yang Min-Hyeok recently arrived at Championship side Portsmouth.
But Tottenham have another couple of departures to finalise before closing that book for another season.

This article includes exclusive comments from Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham.
Bryan Gil tipped to return to Sevilla
Bryan Gil has disappointed since Tottenham signed him from Sevilla at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.
This came as part of an exchange deal with Argentine Erik Lamela, who headed the other way.
- Gil joined Tottenham on a five-year deal, which runs out in 2026
- The forward was purchased for an initial fee of £21.6million
Levy has been criticised at Tottenham for his transfer decisions surrounding Gil.
Gil is expected to leave Spurs this summer, but a deal has yet to materialise. Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes he could end up returning to Sevilla before 1 September.
“The player of seemingly zero interest is Gil,” Wenham said.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen if he’s just going to run out the last 11 months of his contract and find a pre-contract to go for nothing in January to go back to Seville or something like that.
“I don’t know what will happen, but there have been no pictures of him even training since that very first day back when he was on the bike. He’s not been seen since there was some report that he’s gone back to Spain or something. So that’s the situation that needs resolving as an outgoing.”

How much are Tottenham set to lose if Gil leaves for free?
With his contract expiring during the summer of 2026, there is every chance that Gil leaves Tottenham on a free transfer.
According to Capology on 20 August, Gil’s estimated annual wage is £2.08m. Since he was signed in 2021, his total cumulative wage would equal £10.4m before his contract runs out.
Player | Expiration | Weekly wage | Yearly wage |
Bryan Gil | 30 June 2026 | £40,000 | £2.08m |
Combined with the £21.6m spent to sign him, Tottenham should spend £32m by the time 2026 rolls around.
However, there are a couple of caveats. There were unconfirmed reports of a wage reduction when he moved to Girona on loan, while it is unknown whether either Sevilla, Girona or Valencia covered part of his wages.
Even so, the Lilywhites have undoubtedly covered their fair share. All things considered, this is a poor bit of business from Daniel Levy.
