Tamworth v Tottenham: Ex-FIFA ref hails Postecoglou after what happened in stands

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has been hailed by Keith Hackett for the manner in which he reacted to being heckled by Tamworth fans.

Tamworth supporters were seen banging the Spurs dugout and shouting towards Postecoglou during Sunday’s (12 February) FA Cup third-round tie, which Tottenham edged 3-0 after extra time in a massive scare.

Postecoglou, who is under immense pressure as Spurs boss, reacted with a smile rather than retaliating in any way.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, former FIFA and Premier League referee Hackett said: “I think the manager of Spurs has been terrific.

He is passionate about football and would have enjoyed the challenge of playing in the FA Cup at Tamworth.

He did not make a big deal of the fans around the technical area.

Ange Postecoglou could be on brink of Tottenham sack

Postecoglou entered this third-round tie no doubt fully aware he could be sacked by Spurs as early as Sunday (12 January).

The Lilywhites managed to scrape through in extra time, but there can be no excuses for the truly terrible showing at The Lamb Ground.

Postecoglou may deserve praise for the way he acted when being targeted from the stands, but he has done his job prospects no good whatsoever with this performance.
