Spurs expert ‘fed up’ with one thing Ange Postecoglou keeps doing at Tottenham

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou must show another side to his game and improve his team defensively, according to ex-Spurs scout Bryan King.

Spurs have struggled to keep goals out as of late, conceding seven times in their last four matches, three of which were at home.

Postecoglou’s side have just one win from their last six matches in all competitions and will be looking to bounce back from defeat when they host Crystal Palace at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday 2 March.

In order to do that, King believes that Postecoglou must focus less on going forward and more on the defensive side of Spurs’ game.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “I couldn’t believe they defended so poorly against Wolves.

“It is alright going forward, but at some stage, every team you play in the Premier League will get chances, and what teams must do is deal with those situations which Spurs did not do against Wolves.

“Wolves have now beaten Tottenham twice in similar circumstances. They must be more careful against Palace.

“I am fed up with hearing about how Postecoglou keeps going forward because you have also got to defend in the Premier League.

“Spurs’ back four is as good as any in the Premier League, but when they push on they leave such big spaces behind them and they’re at risk of balls getting played in behind which has happened on multiple occasions this season when they have been leading matches.”

Ange Postecoglou must learn from past mistakes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs’ defensive performances as of late have not been good enough, there is no hiding from that fact for Postecoglou.

They have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last six matches and haven’t kept a Premier League clean sheet since a 2-0 win away at Nottingham Forest on Friday 15 December, almost three months ago.

In addition, Spurs haven’t kept a clean sheet at home in the Premier League since 23 October when they beat Fulham 2-0, and they will be looking to put that right against Crystal Palace on Saturday 2 March.

Ange Postecoglou must improve the defensive record at Tottenham.

While they often score for fun, having found the back of the net in every league game this season, they also concede almost just as frequently, often relying on Guglielmo Vicario to keep them in games.

No team in the top six of the Premier League has let in more goals than Spurs, and if the North London side want to maintain their push to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, they will need to address that statistic in the coming weeks.

As the old saying goes, attack wins you games, defence wins you titles.
