Sources: Atletico Madrid ready to pounce on Cristian Romero as Tottenham situation monitored
Atletico Madrid could look to make a move for Spurs defender Cristian Romero in the summer, Tottenham News has been told.
Romero joined the North London side from Serie A outfit Atalanta two and a half years ago in a deal worth £42million (Sky Sports News, 7 August 2021).
The central defender has lived up to his price tag so far, making 79 appearances for Tottenham, scoring four goals and providing one assist.

He has been a key figure for Ange Postecoglou this season, starting every Premier League match he has been fit and available for, scoring three goals.
His brilliant form has attracted interest from some of Europe’s elite, and a recruitment source with close links to Spurs has revealed to Tottenham News that Atletico Madrid could look to make an approach for the 25-year-old this summer and are monitoring his situation.
The Argentinian link between head coach Diego Simeone and Romero could make the move appealing for both parties, Tottenham News has learned.
Romero has enjoyed great success with the Argentina national team, playing a big part in their World Cup win in Qatar in December 2022. In addition, he was also a key figure in the side’s Copa America success one year prior.

The defender has a contract with Tottenham until June 2027, and chairman Daniel Levy would likely command a big fee if any transfer were to take place.
Postecoglou will be keen to hold on to Romero as he continues to rebuild the backline at Hotspur Way.
Spurs recently announced the signing of centre-back Radu Dragusin from Genoa in a deal which could rise to £25.7million (Fabrizio Romano, 11 January).
Meanwhile, Eric Dier left the club after nine and a half years to join German side Bayern Munich (Tottenham Hotspur Official X, 11 January).
In other Tottenham news, one Spurs expert believes a rarely-seen player could have a big part to play in the second half of the season.
