Son Heung-min doubt raised at Tottenham amid contract latest
Son Heung-min has never quite hit the heights at Tottenham Hotspur since the departure of Harry Kane, according to Ian Darke.
Son has donned the Spurs armband since Kane’s move to Bayern Munich in 2023, but he has still not won a single trophy since his arrival in North London back in 2015.
And while TV commentator Darke does not believe Son has any issues at the club, he does not think he is the same player as he was two seasons ago.
“With Son, that’s one of those that could only be recognised by an interview with the player,” Darke said.
“I’m not quite sure what his mentality is – he’s such a good pro and knows how much he means to Tottenham and their fans after what he’s done for the club.
“I don’t think he’ll say anything out of place in that regard. They obviously still think he’d be an asset going on 33, 34, although he’s never quite hit another partnership the way he had with Harry Kane.”
Son Heung-min and Tottenham set to solve immediate future
Son is now 32 and it was revealed recently that the club and their skipper were well on course to extending his contract for another year until the end of the 2025-26 season [Florian Plettenberg, 22 November].
Tottenham will continue to value their iconic Korean forward as their prized possession moving forward, in search of their first piece of silverware since 2008.

Spurs have been drawn to face the lowest-ranked opponent in the FA Cup third round when they visit non-league Tamworth next month, aiming for a triumphant cup run at long last.
Winning a trophy this season quite simply has to be the priority, and there is no reason why a back-in-form Son cannot help achieve that.
