Romero to be ‘highest-paid player’ as perfect four-step Tottenham masterplan outlined
Cristian Romero is set to become a huge staple in North London as Tottenham’s likely masterplan is outlined.
The Argentine was close to a departure from Hotspur Way, with Atletico Madrid among the interested clubs.
However, the Spanish side’s interest has since cooled after it was revealed that the defender is likely to remain at Tottenham this summer.
As a result, the London club are keen to tie him down for good with a new contract supposedly in the works.

Romero set to be offered new Tottenham contract
According to the print edition of Mundo Deportivo (20 July, pg. 17), Tottenham have already seen one offer rejected by Romero. However, they are now believed to be preparing another proposal for a new contract.
With the Spurs captaincy seemingly up for grabs this summer, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes that Tottenham has conducted a masterplan to see the deal signed.

“I think it’s the perfect decision,” Wenham said.
“Moving forward for the club, I think if you give Romero the armband. When you now look Atletico Madrid signed David Hancko yesterday, they’re still pushing for Renato Veiga from Chelsea. I think that link to Atletico is finished now and done.
“So we can safely assume that Romero will be at Tottenham this year. That was step one, keeping the player at the club. Step two, if you ask me, is giving him the captain’s armband. Three is extending the contract of his close friend and best friend at the club, Rodrigo Bentancur. Step four is getting Romero to extend his contract.
“I think those other conditions make it a perfect scenario and a set of dominoes that fall that allows Romero to extend his contract to Tottenham, become probably the highest-paid player at the club and gives us a real basis to move forward on. But I would name Romero as the permanent captain.”
Romero would make an excellent captain
Romero’s Man of the Match performance during the UEFA Europa League final demonstrated that he is captain material.
The defender was a force at the back. He put his heart on the line to ensure Tottenham brought back silverware to Hotspur Way.
With Son Heung-min set to leave North London this summer, Romero is the natural person to take over the mantle. His commanding presence and ability to see the entire pitch put him in good stead to lead the Lilywhites for years to come.
