Rodrigo Bentancur ‘to seal Tottenham exit’ after ridiculous development – Expert

Rodrigo Bentancur could be on his way out of Tottenham this summer.

Bentancur has endured a stop-start campaign this term, with supporters recently blasting the midfielder over his “disgraceful” actions which led to yet another suspension.

Meanwhile, Lucas Bergvall has stepped up in the absence of Bentancur, and several other Tottenham players, demonstrating incredible potential amid Spurs’ recent struggles.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested there could now be an opportunity for Bentancur to be moved on this summer.

“Bergvall has exceeded all my expectations,” Wenham said.

“I thought a few months ago that he might leave on loan in January. However, that is so far away from my thoughts now that it is ridiculous.

“While the injuries have been frustrating, it has allowed Bergvall to play in these big matches, and that experience he has banked will make him stronger moving forward. Therefore, we now have options in the middle of the park.

“Suddenly, we could be looking at the likes of Bentancur – who is out of contract in 2026 – and thinking about selling him in the summer because of the emergence of a player like Bergvall. I like Bentancur, but the constant injuries and suspensions have been difficult.

“As a result, he is somebody who we might look to move on as we think about long-term planning.”

Rodrigo Bentancur to leave Tottenham?

Bentancur is one of Spurs’ more experienced midfielders and a player who a lot of supporters likely wouldn’t entertain selling.

However, he is out of contract in 2026. Therefore, if Spurs aren’t going to sell him this summer, they need to offer the 27-year-old a new deal, otherwise, they risk losing him for free.

And considering all the recent issues and controversies surrounding the Uruguay international – which has cost the club many thousands – Tottenham might not want to commit to offering the midfielder a new contract.

As a result, a sale could be on the cards – a sale made more plausible by the emergence of Bergvall.
