Revealed: Who is stopping Daniel Levy from sacking Tottenham boss Postecoglou

Tottenham Hotspur had their youngsters to thank for arguably keeping Ange Postecoglou in a job on Thursday, according to Ian Darke.

The TV commentator, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, was fearful that Postecoglou’s “final straw” could’ve occurred via the home defeat by Leicester City last Sunday (26 January).

Tottenham did however go on to overcome Elfsborg in their league phase finale of the Europa League via three second-half strikes from youngsters Dane Scarlett, Damola Ajayi and Mikey Moore.

Darke admitted progress outside of the Premier League is likely to be saving Postecoglou’s status as Spurs boss.

“It was certainly a case on Thursday of ‘the kids are alright’ for Tottenham,” he said.

“I was personally pleased for Postecoglou where there’s been so much doom and gloom, and in previous times, losing 2-1 to Leicester might’ve been the final straw. The fact they’re still in the League Cup and Europe are probably still keeping him in the job.

“Whether they can build on Thursday when they visit Brentford is a bit of an acid test, and the youngsters are at least showing they can come in with an impact.”

Tottenham still have plenty to play for

Despite their dismal form in the league, Tottenham still have plenty to fight towards this season.

Following Sunday’s tricky trip across the capital to Brentford (2 February), the showdown of all showdowns looms at Anfield and the task is clear – avoid defeat at Anfield against Liverpool and a place in the Carabao Cup final is sealed. A mission easier said than done, but fans will already have at least one eye on Thursday (6 February).
