Radu Dragusin set for chance to prove himself at Tottenham after what happened

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King believes centre-back Radu Dragusin must prove himself after Micky van de Ven’s latest injury at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs paid Serie A outfit Genoa £26.7million in January to bring Dragusin to the Premier League (Sky Sports News, 12 January 2023).

Despite the fee paid to bring the Romanian to North London, Postecoglou has handed the 22-year-old very little game time.

Dragusin has so far made just five Premier League appearances from the bench and is yet to start a match for Tottenham, although, after van de Ven’s injury against Aston Villa, King believes that now is the time for the defender to step up and show his worth.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, King said: “The only negative from the win against Aston Villa was van de Ven’s injury.

“Dragusin came on and picked up the pace of the game. As soon as he was on the pitch, Spurs scored, and he of course helped his side to a clean sheet.

“It looks as if he might now get the chance to prove himself and he must take it.

“He was a little bit silly to pick up a yellow card, he didn’t need to put his foot up to try and block the free-kick, but apart from that he did well.

“He didn’t take chances, he played it simple and I liked the look of him.”

Radu Dragusin must show why he was brought to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Few supporters would have expected Dragusin to be handed a place in the first-team upon his arrival in England.

Romero and van de Ven have both been incredible this season, forming a formidable partnership at the back for Spurs. As a result, it would be difficult for anyone to get ahead of either of Spurs’ starting centre-backs.

However, after another injury concern for van de Ven, even if the Dutchman isn’t out of action for too long, Postecoglou might be keen to manage the 22-year-old’s minutes to avoid any further issues.

Dragusin was brought to the club for this exact reason, and he must now justify the decision to pay almost £30million for him midway through the season.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs supporters will be outraged by a decision made by Daniel Levy this week.
