Premier League urged to accept Tottenham request as talks already underway
Tottenham are in talks with the Premier League about potentially moving one of their fixtures.
Ange Postecoglou’s side were humiliated at Anfield on Sunday (27 April) as Liverpool thrashed Tottenham 5-1 to clinch their 20th English league title.
Postecoglou did something never done before by a Tottenham manager. As a result, this highlighted that the Lilywhites’ full focus is now on the UEFA Europa League.
Spurs are set to play the first leg of their Europa League semi-final against Bodø/Glimt at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (1 May).
And a recent request to the Premier League further reinforces Spurs’ focus on the European competition.

Tottenham want Aston Villa clash rescheduled
Spurs remain 16th in the Premier League after their defeat at Liverpool.
As a result, even if the North London club win the Europa League, Postecoglou is still expected to leave Tottenham. However, it appears some confidence at least remains about Tottenham reaching the final after a recent announcement.
| Fixture | Date | Venue |
| Tottenham v Bodø/Glimt | 1 May | Tottenham Hotspur Stadium |
| Bodø/Glimt v Tottenham | 8 May | Aspmyra Stadion |
The Lilywhites officially announced on Sunday (27 April) that they are in talks with the Premier League about changing the date of their clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The fixture is currently scheduled for Sunday, 18 May, three days ahead of the Europa League final on Wednesday, 21 May.
However, ex-FIFA official Keith Hackett – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is hopeful that Spurs’ request is accepted by the Premier League.
“I hope that Spurs’ request to change the date of their game against Aston Villa on the 18th May is accepted by the Premier League,” Hackett said.
“This should be to accommodate the possibility of Tottenham playing in the Europa League final if they manage to win their semi-final. I must say that clubs in other parts of Europe appear to always get support from their associations.”
Postecoglou must ensure Tottenham reach the Europa League final
It is understandable why Spurs want their fixture against Villa moved.
However, based on their performance at Anfield, there is no guarantee that the North London club will even reach the final of the Europa League.
Therefore, it seems Postecoglou and his players have a lot of work to do.
