Postecoglou to raise eyebrows with Tottenham new signing decision

Tottenham Hotspur should sign a new goalkeeper rather than keeping with Fraser Forster to replace Guglielmo Vicario, according to Ian Darke.

The football commentator, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, has urged Spurs to consider further strengthening their options between the sticks in January.

Vicario has undergone surgery which will keep him out “for months”, clearing the path for 36-year-old Forster to stand by until the Italian’s recovery is complete.

“I’d have thought in the situation they’re in that they’d want to get a top-level goalkeeper on board and keep Forster as the number two,” Darke said.

“I think keeping Forster in while Vicario recovers might raise a few eyebrows among the fans. Vicario probably is the justified number one although he’s not blemish-free.

“It’s probably world knowledge that he isn’t great from crosses, and maybe there are certain attributes where Forster might come in stronger, but Ange Postecoglou might have some thinking to do.”

Tottenham show faith in Fraser Forster

Tottenham are set to rely on Forster in the coming months after Postecoglou affirmed he is happy for his deputy to step in.

The experienced former Celtic and Southampton man has been selected in Europe and in cup competitions so far this season, which has readied him for the opportunity.

Forster could reach 500 senior career appearances depending on how long he remains between the sticks for the Lilywhites.
