Postecoglou ‘to axe Son for Tottenham v Southampton’ as replacement named
Ange Postecoglou is expected to axe Son Heung-min when Tottenham host Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Tottenham suffered their 16th Premier League defeat of the season on Thursday (3 April) as they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
It was yet another disappointing evening as Postecoglou clashed with the travelling Tottenham fans.
As a result, the mood is likely to be low among the Spurs players ahead of their crunch UEFA Europa League quarter-final tie with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Luckily, the North London side have the opportunity to pick themselves up and build some momentum ahead of that game when they welcome Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (5 April), and Postecoglou is expected to make a big change for this clash.

Postecoglou ‘to replace Son with Tottenham gem v Southampton’
Daniel Levy is increasingly likely to sack Postecoglou after the defeat against Chelsea.
Spurs remain 14th in the Premier League after the loss in West London. Therefore, the North London side are looking more and more likely to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League.
Premier League 2024/25 | Position | Points |
Manchester United | 13th | 37 |
Tottenham | 14th | 34 |
Everton | 15th | 34 |
As a result, Postecoglou needs a result against Southampton.
There were some suggestions that Son would be dropped against Chelsea, but those claims proved to be untrue as the South Korean started at Stamford Bridge.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the 32-year-old could be left out against the Saints, with Mikey Moore coming in to replace him.
“Nobody knows what is going to happen in this game,” Wenham said.
“It could be anything from a 5-0 Tottenham win to a 2-0 defeat. However, I think Son will drop to the bench, and Moore could come in to replace him.
“I’d like to see Moore start alongside Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert. Meanwhile, I’d start with the same midfield and drop Destiny Udogie to the bench for Pedro Porro.”

Postecoglou should be sacked if Tottenham lose v Southampton
Despite all of Spurs’ problems, of which there are a lot, they absolutely should be beating Southampton.
The Saints are statistically one of the worst teams in Premier League history, and Postecoglou’s side put five past them at St Mary’s on 15 December.
Therefore, if Spurs don’t win on Sunday, Postecoglou should be sacked on the spot.
