Postecoglou ‘in Catch-22 situation’ after Tottenham sack news – Exclusive

Ange Postecoglou’s fate seems as though it is written on the wall, regardless of what Tottenham do between now and the end of the season.

Tottenham, despite what has been a dreadful campaign, can still win a trophy via the Europa League and, in turn, qualify for the Champions League.

Ultimately, they are the two things required for a Tottenham manager, and albeit it may arrive through the back door, Postecoglou may achieve that.

However, even if he does, it’s unlikely that it will be enough to get fans back on side, with it looking as though we are approaching his final few games as Spurs boss, and there will be some sympathy.

Tottenham ready for life without Postecoglou

Postecoglou will almost certainly be sacked at Tottenham regardless of any success he can find via the Europa League, and his antics in press conferences won’t help him.

Just after the Europa League victory against Frankfurt, the Australian told reporters: “Unfortunately for a lot of you, you’re going to have to put up with me for a little bit longer, so let’s see how that goes.”

Those reactions have constantly riled supporters up, but Paul Robinson explained the sympathy he has for him when speaking to Tottenham News.

He said: “I think he does goad certain people, and I think he gets to certain people. But what do we want from managers after games? We’re fed up with managers just going into press conferences and interviews and just pressing play. You get the same mundane answers after a game.

Postecoglou’s record at Spurs this season.

“He’s honest, and he’s never shied away from the person that he is. He’s always stuck to his principles. And that’s one thing you can say about him is you get what he is, and you understand who he is.

“It’s honesty, whether you like him or you don’t like him. We all cry out for honesty. We all cry out for managers to be themselves and to be normal in press conferences, and not just give us routine answers. And he doesn’t. And then when he does, people don’t like him. So it’s a catch-22.”

Tottenham need change this summer

Postecoglou needs to be replaced, and Marco Silva may prove to be the one who does that.

However, Tottenham’s issues go far beyond the managerial position, and it’s something that needs to be addressed in the summer.

Recruitment needs to be done well, and there can be no margin for error.
