Postecoglou feeling Tottenham pressure after ‘unusual’ behaviour – Spurs Insider

Ange Postecoglou appears to be feeling the pressure at Tottenham after his “unusual” behaviour following the 1-1 draw with Rangers on Thursday.

Daniel Levy is expected to make a sack decision next week, with Spurs now winless in five matches after failing to claim victory in the UEFA Europa League at Ibrox on 12 December.

Postecoglou was let down by several of his players on the night, with Brennan Johnson branded a “disgrace” after what the Welshman did.

However, it was Timo Werner who really disappointed his manager. Perhaps a surprise inclusion ahead of kick-off, the German was axed at half-time after his woeful display in the first 45 minutes.

Postecoglou made it perfectly clear how he felt about the forward after the match, and Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – was shocked by the Spurs boss’ brutal honesty.

“Werner will certainly continue to play because we don’t have many other options,” Wenham said.

“However, these comments from Postecoglou were unusual. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard him talk about a player like that before, and it is very rare for a manager to do that full stop.

“It was a bit out of character, and probably a result of the pressure he is under at Tottenham. However, I also think it was a little unfair if I’m being honest.

“Yes, Werner was poor. Yes, it was the right decision to take him off. However, singling him out doesn’t feel right. Postecoglou chose to bring him back to the club, he chose to play him against Rangers. Therefore, it does seem a bit harsh to me.”

Ange Postecoglou fed up with Tottenham loanee Timo Werner?

It appears as though Postecoglou has had enough of Werner, with the Australian expected to axe the 28-year-old for the Premier League clash with Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday [15 December].

However, it was still quite surprising to see the 59-year-old bash his own player so publicly and brutally.

Pressure is increasing on Postecoglou, a fact which the Rangers fans reminded the former Celtic boss of.

And this criticism of Werner might be a sign that the Australian is worried about keeping his job.
