Postecoglou Exclusive: Tottenham sack decision revealed by Ian Darke

Ange Postecoglou will be wondering what can next go right for him after Tottenham Hotspur were beaten by Chelsea.

The Premier League encounter brought Spurs’ 16th defeat in 30 league games so far this season, and next up come basement boys Southampton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (6 April).

Four days later, Eintracht Frankfurt come calling in the first half of a tie which will dictate Spurs’ season one way or the other.

Postecoglou future prediction made

Tottenham have serious work to do to restore their season, and it all hinges on their tie with Frankfurt and what might follow it on their European path.

To win the Europa League would not only give Spurs their long-awaited first major trophy in 17 years, but also return them to the Champions League, massively boost revenue and hopefully – from the fans’ perspective – bring in the top calibre of players.

Postecoglou knows the likely reason he remains in post is that they overcame AZ Alkmaar last month in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

TV commentator Ian Darke, who covers the European competitions for TNT Sports, stated some weeks ago that Postecoglou could remain Spurs manager even without winning the European crown this term.

Darke has now delivered his latest thoughts, exclusively to Tottenham News.

“I think it’s still possible he stays,” he admitted.

“It would also depend on what other managers might be available or within reach to them. But they’ve stuck with Ange this long with where they are in the league, and ideally he does have to win the Europa League.

“They’ve got a mighty tough test in the next round. Frankfurt have some top players, like [Hugo] Ekitike up front. Tottenham have to be at their best.”

Tottenham could rest players v Southampton

Tottenham should beat Southampton this weekend, but you just can’t rule out anything with this team – even if it’s securing a confidence-boosting three points against the whipping boys of the league.

Not to mention Leicester City – only marginally superior to the sorry Saints this term – managed to claim a victory in North London back in January.

Regardless, Postecoglou could rotate his team. There is nothing to play for in the Premier League – not even the top half. That is the sorry state of affairs for a Spurs side who remarkably maintain one of the division’s best attacking records.

It’s all on next Thursday, and the following Thursday. Then it’s all on the semi-finals, the final and lifting silverware at long last.
