Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg transfer hopes gone after controversial incident at Tottenham amid Juventus interest – Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

If Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg was hoping for a transfer away from Tottenham in January “that’s probably gone” for him thanks to injuries at the club, according to Paul Robinson.

The Sky Sports pundit reached the conclusion after the latest injury blow to Ange Postecoglou’s depleted Spurs squad, with Rodrigo Bentancur now out for months [Premier Injuries] after a foul by Aston Villa’s Matty Cash on 27 November, which went down badly with the club’s fans.

With the Argentine joining the likes of James Maddison, Pape Sarr and Manor Solomon, on the injury list just in terms of midfield options Robinson doesn’t see how Tottenham can contemplate letting Hojbjerg leaving until at least the end of the season, despite interest from Juventus heading into the winter window [Telegraph, 7 November].

The former England keeper exclusively told Tottenham News: “I think for him, unfortunately, on a personal level, if he had thought and ambitions of leaving the club that’s probably gone because of the injuries that they’ve suffered.

With [Yves] Bissouma unavailable Benatancur played in the holding midfield role with [Giovani] Lo Celso.

“I think the situation the club are in with injuries, with Bentancur out until February, if Hojbjerg had designs on a move in January they’ll probably be delayed until the end of the season.”

Until two months ago it looked nailed on that Hojbjerg, 28, would be on his way sooner or later as he had become peripheral under Postecoglou.

But with injuries and suspensions piling up the Danish international has become increasingly important as the Australian has been obliged to look further and further down the pecking order.

Results have already suffered during the crisis after the sparkling start to the season and to let the midfielder leave in a month’s time would seem to be asking for more trouble unless Juventus, or anyone else, is willing to stump up big money that could be used on a replacement.

In other Tottenham news, a Sky Sports pundit is “so fed up” after a “ridiculous” situation that he fears is still getting worse.
