Sources: Ivan Perisic to snub Tottenham contract offer as exit edges closer
Ivan Perisic is not interested in signing a new deal with Tottenham, sources have told Tottenham News.
The Croatian, 34, is set to miss the majority of the 2023/24 season after suffering an ACL injury during training.
As a result, his future is up in the air, with Croatian news outlet sportske reporting online (26 September) that Daniel Levy and Hajduk Split’s president Lukša Jakobušić have verbally agreed on the transfer of Perisic during the upcoming January window ahead of his deal expiring at the end of the season.
Those details have been substantiated by Tottenham News, with Levy willing for the player to go as a “goodwill” gesture.
And one well-placed source has told Tottenham News that the former Bayern Munich star had no interest in extending his stay in north London, prior to a deal being agreed upon between Spurs and his former boyhood club.
“He has this horrendous injury, and his contract runs out next summer. He wasn’t going to sign a new contract because he felt he wasn’t going to be a regular in the side.”
Perisic has so far been used sparingly by Ange Postecoglou this season, starting just one of the club’s first five games, the second-round Carabao Cup penalty shootout defeat to Fulham.
However, he had come on as a substitute during each of Spurs’ four Premier League fixtures prior to his injury, and proved useful in parts, grabbing an assist during his side’s dramatic late comeback against Sheffield United.
His exit will bring to an end a stay of just over one year in England after he signed a two-year deal with Tottenham last summer.
