Paul Robinson wowed by Gugliemo Vicario as Italy prediction made for Tottenham star after win v Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Paul Robinson cannot speak highly enough about Guglielmo Vicario after the Tottenham goalkeeper shone once more in the 2-1 win over Everton on Saturday.

Spurs’ renewed momentum continued with a victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 23 December. However, Everton were arguably the better side as Sean Dyche’s men enjoyed way more shots at goal than the home team in North London.

Vicario, 27, joined Spurs from relative obscurity in the summer after signing from Empoli.

However, the Italian shot-stopper has pulled off a number of top-class performances after replacing Hugo Lloris as Spurs’ number one and the 2-1 win over Everton was no different despite him not keeping a clean sheet.

Stats by WhoScored show that Vicario made seven saves in the Tottenham victory. His 97th-minute save from an Arnaut Danjuma volley was basically a match-winner.

Ex-Spurs goalkeeper Robinson is delighted with Vicario and he believes the ex-Empoli ace is destined to be the Italy number one soon enough.

Listen, he’s just continuing on from where he started,” Robinson told Tottenham News.

Yesterday was a continuation of a number of good performances and I’ve been really impressed with the way that he’s taken the gloves.

It’s been a smooth transition from Hugo Lloris, who’s now in the background.

Vicario’s not just doing well at Tottenham, he’s one of the best in the league at the moment, in my opinion.

It’s not going to be long before he’s starting for Italy, he’s playing some of the best football of his career.

His decision-making and shot-stopping have been excellent. He’s been an integral part in everything Spurs have done this season.

On the recruitment side of things with him, Mick van de Ven and Rodrigo Bentancur, they deserve a huge pat on the back to find a goalkeeper of his quality and at his age. I’ve been extremely impressed.”

Since Vicario joined Tottenham, Lloris has been ostracised from the senior squad with the former Spurs captain not making a single matchday squad this season despite being contracted to the club until the summer.

In other Tottenham news, we have been exclusively told that this big-name Spurs player is set to re-sign for his former club in the summer transfer window.
