Paul Robinson: Son could be ‘unbelievably prolific’ now Kane has quit Tottenham

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…

Son Heung-Min is “absolutely loving” his new role as Tottenham captain and could be “unbelievably prolific” now Harry Kane is gone, according to Paul Robinson.

With plenty of pressure to perform in a crucial season in North London, Son has taken each challenge in his stride, scoring five goals already in the Premier League including a point-winning brace in the North London derby.

Robinson has heaped praise on the 31-year-old for his blistering start to the campaign and claimed he has taken his responsibility in the Tottenham side “to another level”.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Son seems to be absolutely loving it. You always knew that he had the leadership qualities, certainly in his performances as he leads by example most weeks.

“You look at his running stats, you look at what he gives the team every week To have the captain’s armband this year with Harry Kane going, he’s now taking it on to another level as in the responsibility.

“He’s taken the goal-scoring on too. I think the most he got in one season [in the league] was 23, but he’s looking already off the mark with five this season.

“Son’s looking to take that mantle on. He’s realised that somebody’s got to score the goals from somewhere and he certainly hit the ground running this season, but the players around him are doing that as well. They’ve helped him with the way they are playing and have certainly helped him with his goal-scoring.

“He’s never been unbelievably prolific, but he started this season in a way where you would think that he could potentially be unbelievably prolific this year.

“Getting the two goals in the North London Derby too, that shows he’s the driving force of the side.”
