Paul Robinson shares Tottenham transfer policy view amid numerous potential departures
We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium…
Despite rumours of many experienced Tottenham players departing, Paul Robinson has claimed age is “irrelevant” in regard to their transfer policy, while talent and potential must be the priority.
With vice-captain Harry Kane, captain Hugo Lloris and midfield regular Pierre-Emile Højbjerg all linked with moves away from the club, many Spurs fans may be concerned about the lack of Premier League experience and leadership in the squad come the start of the season.
While new signing James Maddison does add midfield quality and top-flight experience, the loss of the likes of Kane and Lloris could change the face of the squad at a time where Spurs are undergoing significant change. Spurs have also been linked to the highly-rated Edmond Tapsoba [GiveMeSport] in their bid to improve their lacklustre defence.

However, Robinson claims that Ange Postecoglou should resist the urge to replace outgoings with similar-profiled players but should instead target quality talent, regardless of age.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I don’t think Tapsoba is going to be the only centre-back Tottenham are looking at anyway. They’ll be looking to bring in probably a minimum of two.

“If you’ve got Romero, there’s your experience. The new goalkeeper Vicario has impressed in pre-season, he’s done well.
“Fraser Forster is still around. Whether he’s going to stick around or whether they’re going to look in the market again, we don’t know.
“I think it’s all about reshaping the squad regardless of how old you are.
“There’s a lot of players of a very young age that got a lot of experience. You look at that Gvardiol, who they’re talking about going to Manchester City, the age that he’s at and the experience that he’s got.

“I think his age is irrelevant now.
“I think you’re looking to take top-quality players from around Europe to make your starting 11 better.
“That’s the thing with Tottenham, they’ve got no European football next year. There’s no distraction.
“They don’t need to amass players for getting a big squad’s sake, they need to get quality players and a small squad that the manager can work with like he’s proven to do in the past.”
In other Tottenham news, Robinson makes an assessment of a ‘susceptible’ Spurs defender amid reports of his departure from the club.
